Apple launches the first MacBook Pro with a touchscreen and tandem OLED

Apple unveiled the new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR display: the first touch Mac, with a tandem OLED panel of up to 2000 nits, Dynamic Island and M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. It arrives on November 6.

For the first time in the history of the Mac, an Apple computer can be controlled by touching the screen. On October 28, 2026 the company introduced the new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR display, a tandem OLED panel that also brings more brightness and contrast than any previous Apple laptop.

A Mac you can touch for the first time

The touch sensor is built into the panel itself, not layered on top, which cuts the delay between your finger and the image. You can swipe to scroll a page, pinch to zoom into a photo, drag slides from one presentation to another or double-tap a window to fill the screen. To keep the display steady while you touch it, Apple redesigned the hinge.

Because macOS translates touches into clicks, many apps work from day one without changes. On top of that, programs such as Blender, DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Lightroom, Cinema 4D and the Microsoft Office apps will take specific advantage of touch, and designers can draw across the whole screen without relying on the trackpad.

The Dynamic Island comes to the Mac

The iPhone's Dynamic Island now sits at the top of the Mac's display and brings together Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI, the new assistant in macOS 27. From there you can take a call, pause music or accept an AirDrop with a tap.

What makes the PROLED XDR display special

A tandem OLED stacks two light-emitting layers, allowing more brightness with less wear. Apple quotes up to 2000 nits of peak brightness in both HDR and SDR, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, a variable refresh rate from 10 to 120 Hz and a color gamut covering P3 and Adobe RGB, with more than 80% of Rec. 2020. There is also a nano-texture option, etched directly into the cover glass, to cut reflections.

Lighter, with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips

Since the OLED takes up less space, the 14-inch model (now 14.2) weighs about 1.36 kg, around 230 grams less than before, and the 16-inch (now 16.3) about 1.81 kg, 320 grams less. Both are slightly thinner and keep the performance of the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips thanks to a redesigned thermal system that also directs warm air away from the display.

It has three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SD card slot, MagSafe, a headphone jack, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, fast charging to 50% in 30 minutes and up to 16 TB of storage. Pre-orders opened on October 28 in 30 countries and deliveries start on November 6.
