AMD confirms FSR 4.1 for Xbox Series X|S: better upscaling, no date yet
On October 20 AMD announced FSR 4.1 is reaching more Radeon cards, Ryzen AI processors and, “soon,” the Xbox Series X|S.

On October 20, 2026 AMD confirmed the expansion of FSR 4.1, its AI upscaling technology, and one of the news items matters to anyone with an Xbox: it is coming to the Xbox Series X|S consoles.
What AMD announced
The announcement came with the Adrenalin 26.10.1 driver. FSR 4.1 already worked on Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000, and now extends to the RX 6000, from the 6900 down to the 6400. It also arrives for the first time on processors with integrated graphics: Ryzen AI Max and Ryzen AI 9, plus some handheld chips such as the Ryzen Z2A and Z2 Extreme.
What changes for Xbox consoles
Scott Van Vliet, Xbox’s chief technology officer, said in a video that FSR 4.1 is coming “soon” to the Series X|S and that Xbox and AMD worked together to optimize it. There is no date or game list yet, and Microsoft gave no details on how it will be implemented.
The idea of upscaling is that the game is rendered at a lower resolution and the image is stretched with AI so it still looks sharp, leaving more frames per second. Sony already does something similar with PSSR on the PS5 Pro and QSSR on the standard PS5, so this brings the two platforms closer.

What comes next
According to Van Vliet, this technology will also be in Project Helix, the next-generation Xbox, which will use a newer version called FSR Diamond. AMD also clarified that games that already support the FSR 4 interface get the upgrade through the driver, with no patch needed. On handhelds, each maker has to ship its own driver, so timing will vary.
At MBTECNIC we see it every day in the shop: these software upgrades squeeze more out of the console or PC you already own, but they always need healthy, well-ventilated, well-maintained hardware.
