Sony releases another PS5 security update ahead of GTA 6
In short: Version 26.07-14.22.00 weighs 1.267 GB and arrives just 11 days after the previous one, amid the fight against jailbreaks.

Sony released PS5 system update 26.07-14.22.00 today, November 2. It weighs 1.267 GB and its patch notes confirm it is security related. It comes just 11 days after version 14.20, released on October 21.
Cat and mouse
Over the past month, the PlayStation homebrew scene has released jailbreaks for older system versions. In late September one appeared that worked on every PS5, including the PS5 Pro, running firmware 7.00 to 13.60.
A jailbreak lets people modify the console, but it also opens the door to piracy. Sony responds with updates that close each hole, and the scene starts looking for the next one: a back-and-forth that never stops.
Why GTA 6 matters

GTA 6 launches on November 19. The worry is that if a jailbreak appears for the system version the game requires, it could be copied. It is believed to need at least 14.20, and now perhaps 14.22. Sony may release more patches before launch.
What to do
For anyone using the console normally, the best move is to accept updates: they fix security flaws, and many new games require them to download their own patches.
At MBTECNIC we service PS5 consoles: cleaning, thermal paste replacement, disc drive and HDMI port repairs. If your console shuts down or fails to update, get in touch.
